GB Athletes visit Rathfern

On the 9th of March two talented British Athletes, Jack Andrew and Dannish Walker-Khan visited Rathfern.

Jack is the current British champion and has represented both GB and England at a world and European level. Dannish is a world and European gold medalist in the relay with team GB. He is also a former British champion and currently training towards the Rio Olympics.

Jack and Dannish led assemblies where they helped us to understand more about their sport and the events that they compete in. They shared with the children a bit about their personal journeys, and the perseverance that it has taken to get them where they are today.

Later in the day each class participated in a training session led by either Jack or Dannish. Children took part in a variety of fun and competitive activities, from relay races to the long jump. It was great to get an insight of what it is like training for the Olympics!

After the children had been completely tired out, the remaining time was used for a question and answer session to find out more about the athletes. Children asked questions and listened carefully to the athlete’s wise and motivational words.

It has been an amazing experience to meet both Jack and Dannish, and has created a memory for the children that will last a long time!

Thank you Jack and Dannish!
