As part of Global Learning Week, Year 4 have been continuing to learn about our Sustainable Development Goal – SDG 13: take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
We have been reading ‘Belonging’ by Jeannie Baker, which is a wordless picture book that shows the changing environment outside a young girl’s window. The author left us a note for us to reflect about:
“Throughout the world, most people live in cities or urban communities and don’t feel a strong connection with the land on which they live. Often people think they own the land – that it belongs to them as a thing, a possession. But, at the same time, we depend completely on the land to feed us and support us and inspire us. And so we can see that it is the other way around: we belong to the land. If we keep it healthy, it will sustain the web of life on which we depend.”
Using collage techniques similar to Jeannie Baker, we took photographs of our local area and used recycled materials to create the view that we would like to see in the future. #iwishfor
