On Monday 9th January, Year 4 went to on a trip to the Marvellous Museum of London (just around the corner from the Barbican) to begin exploring this half term’s topic: The Romans.
We began the day with a Roman Artefacts workshop where we were able to handle and discuss some artefacts that had been found in Roman London almost two thousand years ago. We then had the opportunity to try on some traditional Roman clothes including items that would have been worn by Roman nobles, soldiers and even a Roman Emperor’s gown!
After lunch, we visited the museum’s Romans Gallery and investigated different aspects of Roman life, such as trade, food, arts and entertainment. It was amazing to see the remnants of London’s Roman wall just outside the museum building – we were in the midst of ancient history right in the middle of London.
It was a wet journey home, but it was an exciting day that set us up well for all our learning about the intrepid Romans.
