Sport Highlights of 2018 – Gymnastics @ The Borough Finals & The London Youth Games

Last academic year was another amazing year for gymnastics! The squad were so happy to win both the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Key Steps Gymnastics Borough Competition on the 19th of April! Our victories meant that both age category teams would go on to compete at the London Youth Games for the second year running! In addition to our team achievements, Sophia from our Year 5/6 squad had the second highest overall score out of all the children competing that day, and Matilda (Year 5/6 squad) also did a brilliant job producing the 3rd highest score.

On the 5th of July the squad performed at the London Youth Games. We were all very proud to be representing Lewisham. We didn’t manage to medal, but were happy with how we performed. Our Year 5/6 team managed to climb up the table from last year ending up in 8th position overall! What an amazing achievement considering the level of talent on display at the games.

“It felt as though all our hard work and training had paid off when we won the Borough Competition. We knew that the Youth Games would be very challenging, but it has been an amazing experience and I think we have done Lewisham proud.”  (Musa Year 6)

Our gymnastics squad have experienced a lot of success over the last few years and are always eager to inspire others, and show other children what they could achieve if they work hard. Last year the squad performed at the Christmas Carol Concert, Blythe Hill Festival, the Summer Fair and our Summer Concert.

Watch out for the gym squad this year, who are already hard at work!
