Our topic this term is ‘The Great Fire of London’. To support our learning, we had a surprise visit from Forest Hill Fire Services along with their fire engine.
The team explained how fires are put out in the present in comparison to how different it was in 1666. We were shown the important equipment e.g. clothing and instruments that they wear and carry on their fire engine in case of an emergency or a fire.
“I felt excited because I have not seen a firefighter before. I also found out that to help people out of their cars, they use a bolt cutter to cut them out.” – Year 2 pupil
As mini firefighters, we were given the opportunity to use the water hose to put out an imaginary fire, by spraying against targets as part of our training.
“I felt surprised and shocked because we sprayed the water to put out the fire. I want to be a fire fighter when I grow up.” – Year 2 pupil
