Microhabitats

Copper Cat (Curiosity)

We explored microhabitats in the school grounds, recording our observations as we navigated our way around. We wanted to understand that most of the living things we observed live in these microhabitats because they are suited to them. These habitats provide for their basic needs.

When we finished making our observations, we returned back to class and used drawings to share our ideas using scientific vocabulary, to describe the different habitats.

We also explored Forest School as part of our outdoor learning to search for microhabitats. We had to consider and draw conclusions about what lives in these microhabitats and why?

Exploring Forest School gave us the opportunity to work scientifically, using our observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions. We also had the freedom to lead our learning based on our prior knowledge of minibeasts.
