Todays dance/gym lesson was based on World Water Day.
We discussed how World water Day is directly linked with STG 6 (Sustainable Development Goal 6) – ‘To ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’. Children then studied George Lyon’s Poem about World Water Day, and brainstormed how we could use it to generate movement ideas.
Children separated into groups and highlighted key words within the poem that they wanted to focus their movement ideas on. Every group came up with a number of innovative creations and brilliant ways of using their bodies to convey the poem.
Some children created human waterfalls, others displayed rippling waves effects, and some made whirling floor patterns to show wasted water going down the plug hole.
The groups were challenged to incorporate a variation of Laban’s movement principles – Actions, Space, Dynamics and Relationships, to make their movement pieces as interesting as possible.
