On the 17th of September a group of Year 5 & 6 Sports Leaders attended the Lewisham Schools Champion & Sports Crew Leadership Training Day.
Lewisham Leaders is a National leadership and student voice programme designed to develop leadership skills at grassroots level. Young children are most inspired and influenced by their peers, therefore we want to support young individuals to become good role models by building their confidence, communication, cooperation and leadership skills in a sports setting.
Children explored the different qualities and skills that are required to be a good leader. They had the opportunity to plan, organise and lead skill-based sports drills and games. Children were challenged to adapt their games to make them harder/easier to suit the needs of their participants.
We look forward to trying out some of our new leadership skills back at school, whether it is leading warm-ups/cool downs in PE, leading a pre-match drill session, or supporting younger children at a lunchtime or Change for life club.
