Today was a very exciting day at Rathfern. Team GB Athletes Dom Mersah and Megan Kealy come to visit us!
Megan won a silver medalist at the 2018 Europeans Tumbler, and Dom was the gold medalist at the Junior Tumbling European Championships.
Dom and Megan led assemblies in the morning where they spoke about how they got into gymnastics, the training they do, and the importance of a growth mindset in achieving your dreams. It was very inspiring listening to some of the barriers they have had to overcome to get to where they are today.
Following the assemblies Dom and Megan ran workshops with all classes. The workshops gave children the opportunity to quiz our athletes with their many burning questions, and explore some of the foundation skills required for tumbling. Dom and Megan put the children through their paces with lots of high energy physical drills and challenges.
Children were very excited to see the athletes perform some of their tricks, Dom’s backflip was a huge hit!
We would like to thank Dom and Megan for coming to visit us, and wish them the best of luck in the world Championships in Tokyo in November/December this year – we will be watching and cheering them on!
