Making breakfast

Maintaining a consistent daily routine, including predictable things like mealtimes and bedtime stories, can be very helpful for young children.  Why not ask your child to help out with making breakfast each morning.

You could ask your child to help with simple jobs, such as:

  • Pouring cereal or milk into their bowl
  • Spreading and slicing their toast
  • Cutting up a piece of fruit (using a safe knife)
  • Placing their plate or bowl into the sink when they have finished eating

Children enjoy taking responsibility for small tasks.  Jobs such as pouring and spreading will help them to improve their hand-eye co-ordination.  Their listening and understanding skills will also develop, through responding to the instructions you give them.
