On Thursday the 15th October 2015 we had a visit from a coach from the England Diving Centre in Crystal Palace. Children learnt about what was involved, how they can give it a go if they were interested and the commitment it takes to be a competitive diver like Tom Daley. It was wonderful to learn about a sport that most of us knew little about and that we rarely see in the media. Children took part in several diving related activities, which were a lot of fun!
The coach carried out some talent testing activities to identify any children who could be particularly suited to diving. Children that were identified as having some talent for diving were invited to a second full testing session at the National Sports Centre Crystal Palace, which is overseen by Chen Wen – the 2004 & 2008 Head British Olympic Coach.
The testing is free and part funded through Sport England and the ASA. Diving training is organised outside of school time at Crystal Palace. Children can go on to compete for their school in the London school’s competitions, which run each term. Many children have gone on to compete in the London Youth Games, National Championships and some have even competed for Great Britain.
Thank you to the England Diving Centre for coming in and giving some of our children such a great opportunity!
