In London Class, as part of Global Learning Week, we have been reading the book, ‘Belonging’ written by Jeannie Baker. The book ‘Belonging’ explores the re-greening of the city: the role of community, the empowerment of people and the significance of children, family and neighbourhood in changing their urban environment. The streets gradually become places for safe children’s play, and community activity and places for nature and wonder. After exploring this book, we focused on our own local community and thought of ways we can improve our environment so that it can become more sustainable and a better place to live.

After observing a map of Rathfern Road and Stansted Road, we discussed ways that we as local citizens can improve our local community to make it a more sustainable community to live in. One of the most popular changes included planting grass, trees, bushes and flowers in the empty spaces. We then worked in pairs to make our community blossom! Take a look at our new community!
