Year 2 went on a school trip to the Wide Horizons Environment Centre. We learnt to read a map as we navigated our way around the site using a compass to locate all of the Gruffalo characters from the story. Amy and Jannus taught us how to memorise the directions North, South, East and West with the following rhymes: ‘Naughty Elephants Squirt Water’ and ‘Never Eat Shredded Wheat.’ It was exciting and fun when we did the conga through the crazy maze of long, wavy grass to find the Snake.
We also had a small image of the Gruffalo where we had to collect a range of different coloured leaves to fill his hungry tummy. We splished and sploshed through puddles and mud and picked them up along the way. We then had to colour match our leaves with the water colour paints in the classroom. We all did a range of different patterns that looked as bright as a rainbow.
