Clay bears

Year 1 have been making bears from clay. First, we decided in pairs which species of bear we would like to make – a giant panda, sun bear, brown bear or black bear. Then, we did research on our bear. What does it look like? What colour is it? What does it like to eat? Where does it live?

We thought about the shapes we needed to make our bear three-dimensional. We made spheres of different sizes for the head, body, nose and ears. Next, we made rolls of clay for the arms and legs. We used materials and tools to add texture for the bears’ fur.

When we painted our bears, we used primary colours to mix the colours we needed. We added black and white to create different tints and shades.
