At Rathfern, we have Anti-Bullying Buddies who take part in an annual training programme designed to support the children in the school to become upstanders. The children are trained in understanding the different types of bullying and how to support others to come forward if they feel worried about bullying.
The Anti-Bullying Buddies complete the programme and are awarded a certificate and a ‘buddy’ badge. This badge is worn at all times at school and it helps the other children on the playground spot a buddy when they need one. The buddies also monitor a ‘buddy bench’ which other children can use during playtime if they need someone to talk to or play with.
Throughout the year the buddies are given many opportunities to engage in activities that ensure Rathfern is a happy and safe school. As part of the training the buddies created posters that are displayed around the school for children to see. The posters communicate important information that can be used to support and signpost anyone if they feel as if they are being bullied.
The current buddies have also created a video that outlines what they understand about bullying, who the buddies are and what responsibilities they hold to ensure Rathfern is a safe and happy community for all.
